Celebrating Women in Business - All Year Long

We recently celebrated International Women’s Day and it was inspiring to see world-wide support for all the women in our lives. It is so important to celebrate and recognize the contributions of women, especially as you think about your business.

But, celebrating, supporting and encouraging women shouldn’t be reserved for a single day or a single month. It should be weaved into the very fabric of your organization; especially in male-dominated industries, where women can face unique challenges and obstacles.

So how does Human Resources play a role in this? HR can be monumental in moving the dial in the right direction for your business when it comes to gender equity, inclusivity, and equality.

Consider HR initiatives such as mentorship programs, leadership development, and networking opportunities; these can all help women expand their skills and knowledge, build meaningful relationships, and advance their careers.

HR initiatives that promote gender inclusivity can take many forms, and should be designed with specific goals in mind. For example, your workplace might focus on building programs where women can connect with other professionals, learn from experienced mentors, and/or develop the leadership skills needed to advance in your industry.

HR is instrumental in managing more proactive, larger-scale initiatives as well, such as advocating for and establishing equal pay structures within the organization, diversity training, and attracting more women through the hiring process (think family friendly policies and flexibility).

We know by now how diverse perspectives and experiences can lead to innovation and growth. By working together to create a workplace that values and supports women, and promotes gender inclusivity, you are broadening the scope of ideas, knowledge, and passion that walks through your doors every day, bringing a multitude of positive implications to your business.

With the help of HR, your business can empower women to thrive in their careers and break through barriers, all while increasing your success as an organization.

Implementing fundamental initiatives that support women, especially in male-dominated industries, creates a workplace that not only values and supports women, but promotes gender inclusivity in all aspects of work.

Celebrating women in business every day, not just on International Women's Day or during Women’s History Month, will create a culture of respect and acceptance, helping your organization establish a level playing field so all employees may thrive and succeed.
